Sir Robert Goodwill, MP for Scarborough and Whitby, formally inaugurated the zip line on Friday, with Lord Downey, owner of Downy Estates, taking to the skies with Scarborough College students.

The exciting new attraction will officially open to the public on Saturday 19th February, so the zip line will open on time for a half-term break in February.

Featuring a 13-meter-high tower with two climbing walls and two 250-meter-long zip lines, thrill seekers can take a breathtaking descent across the lakes on the zip wire overlooking North Yorkshire Water Park.

Talking about the new zip line, Sir Robert said that it was great to open the zip line.

“The first few seconds were awesome,” he said, “but then it was amazing to see the amazing scenery.”

“I’m delighted to see such a huge local investment in my patch and I’m glad to be invited.”

In addition, visitors can enjoy refreshments at Cafe @ North Yorkshire Water and the magnificent views of the adjacent water sports lake and beyond.

During the warmer months, North Yorkshire Water Park offers a range of water-based activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, open water swimming, paddles and a new wakeboard cable system for 2021 visitors.

It doesn’t matter if you are a water sports pro or a beginner, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

David Steele, chief executive of Dawnay Estates, said: “This is another important milestone for us in North Yorkshire Water Park, as we open our latest attraction.

“We’ve invested more than m 1m in the business over the last 12 months, and the zip line and climbing tower are an important part of our vision for the park, especially since last summer. Gained a lot of popularity after the expansion.

Scarborough and Whitby MPs Sir Robert Goodwill and Lord Down are preparing to test the zip wire at North Yorkshire Water Park near Scarborough.

“Along with the zip line and our new climbing walls, we also recently announced the opening of our new ‘251 Events Room’, which has increased our private functions and corporate offerings.

“All activities will be eligible for booking on their own, or as part of an event or party.”

The Zipline is built by Technical Outdoor Solutions, a specialist in bespoke architecture that prides itself on a portfolio of successful projects with past clients, including Parkden Resorts and Morfa Bay.

While the zip line is open to the public from Saturday 19 February, visitors can visit the North Yorkshire Water Park website from Monday 14 February to book their place in advance. Visit for more information and bookings.
