ANTONIO CONTE has revealed that he “now understands Tottenham’s vision” in the light of his January transfer window.
The Spurs brought in Juventus duo of Dejan Klausewski and Rodrigo Bentenker, but they also missed several goals.
They included Adam Traver, who rejoined Barcelona, and Luis Diaz, who was tapped by Liverpool.
And Conte has now talked about how challenging the window was for the club.
Are addressing Sky Sports Italy“It’s always hard to compete, but if I had to find something like that, it would be a lack of confidence that is inevitable when you start working for a club that hasn’t won in a long time,” he said.
“I saw from the outside some situations that could have been prepared, but when you get into it, you realize that something … what happened in January was not easy. We had four in January. The players were lost. Four key players for Tottenham, and we brought in only two.
“So in terms of numbers alone, instead of strengthening the squad, we weakened it on paper.
“Bentancur and Kulusevski are ideal prospects for Tottenham, because Tottenham are looking for young players who can grow and develop, not players who are ready. That’s the problem.”
Conte was then asked if he would be able to close the gap on Tottenham from the Premier League – especially with players who have not yet fully developed.
“That’s the problem,” the Italian replied. “This is the vision and philosophy of the club.
“It’s inevitable that if you want to grow fast and if you want to compete faster, you need players with a lot of experience, because they also raise the level of experience of the team as a whole. ۔
“But I repeat, I now realize that this is the vision of the club.”
Spurs are currently eighth in the Premier League table after three consecutive defeats.

Chelsea lost 2-0 before the winter break, followed by back-to-back home defeats against Southampton and the Wolves.
Lilly Whites are now seven points away from their place in the Champions League, although they have played three games less than fourth-placed Manchester United.
But the next step for Conte’s men is a journey of unity against champions Manchester City.
