Gers stopper Bassi said: “You always want to test yourself against the best. There is no doubt that he is one of the best strikers in the world.

“You want to see how you deal with a player like that. We got the game on Sunday and that’s what our focus is right now, take your form to the league and get three points.

“For us, every game is a big game. I know it’s a clutch but it’s true because, playing for a team like Rangers, you can’t accept anything less than three points.

“Thursday was a wonderful night in a big competition and I’m glad we delivered.

“The game plan was to be brave and self-confident – and I think we showed it.

“We were brave in our press, we were superior. We showed that we can compete on a big stage.

The Rangers’ stunning victory sent shock waves across Europe with Basi last night, revealing that his phone had not stopped ringing.

He smiled: “Your phone will ring while you are playing Dortmund, before we play them. Everyone has congratulated me.”

“We’re only halfway there, we have another 90 minutes and I’m sure they’ll come out with all the guns and give him everything in Ibrox.

“It was a great night and a great feeling. We did a great job as a team, we enjoyed it.”

Bassi did his best in the Rangers jersey when he partnered with Connor Goldson in defense.

He said: “I just want to play. Every game, I want to be involved, wherever I play.

“Centerback you need more communication and it starts with you on the ball.

“If you can beat the first press, you have the responsibility to set the tone for the team in terms of beating the press and being brave.

“If Connor Goldson and I are brave, it goes to the whole team and everyone wants to play.
